Epsilon Chapter Celebrates 20 years, City of Buffalo declares LUL Day in their Recognition

The Fraternidad would like to congratulate Epsilon Chapter, who recently celebrated the chapter's 20th anniversary. In conjunction with this anniversary, Epsilon held their 14th Annual Noche Dorada on April 18, where Hermanos from many chapters and pledge classes came out to support what proved to be a magnificent event. Keynote speaker Anibal Soler, a member of Epsilon's Spring 1998 pledge class, spoke of the chapter's history and of his own experiences emphasizing the nights theme, "Eternal Reflections: Veiñte Anos y Para Siempre!" (Twenty years and Forever!). He also took out time to address our countries challenging educational landscape, asking those in attendance to look within themselves and toward La Hermandad for ways to continue helping our country's youth. However, the highlight of the event was when the Mayor of the City of Buffalo, Mr. Byron Brown, declared April 18th "LUL Day" in recognition of the many years of hard work and dedication to the community of Buffalo by Epsilon Chapter, its many alumni and all Hermanos who have supported them through out the years. Para Siempre Epsilon Chapter, and here's to the next 20 years!

LUL Rocked the Vote at this year's Puerto Rican Day Parade

In an effort to increase Latino voter turnout for the 2008 elections, on June 8th Hermanos from all over the country marched together with pen and paper in hand. Working together with Rock the Vote, whose mission it is to engage and build the political power of young people in order to achieve progressive change in our country, Hermanos registered young voters along the route of the Puerto Rican Day Parade. This ongoing partnership between LUL and Rock the Vote is beneficial for both organizations and has already resulted in hundreds of young voters bring registered. However, the campaign is far from over. In an effort to utilize text messaging to politically engage members of the Latino community, Hermanos used posters and chants to encourage onlookers to join Rock the Vote and La Unidad Latina by texting "VOTA" or "VOTE" to RTVOTE (788683). All Hermanos and chapters are encouraged to continue passing this message along and encouraged to hold voter registration drives on their campuses and in their local communities in order to increase the impact of this partnership from now until September, thereby strengthening La Fraternidad's push to empower Latino voters and affect positive change in our communities.
